The Laidly Worm

'The Laidly Worm' (or Werm) is a short folk tale about a princess who is cursed by her father's new wife when the young girl is the focus of attention at court. The jealous mother transforms the princess into a 'laidly worm' while the girl is asleep. The next morning chamber maids come to wake the princess and are shocked to discover a hideous dragon asleep in the young girl's bed. You can read the whole story here.

This is one of two pieces done for this story which will be a collection of fifty or so monster tales collected in a thick book, much like the work I did last year for '50 Scary Fairy Tales.' I worked on the cover last September and you can see the work-in-progress here.

Ultimately, there will be thirty-five pieces in total and I'm really excited at how everything is coming along so far. I'll post more images as the project proceeds.
