I'm an Art Director and I want to use one of your images in a presentation and it may result in hiring you.

Great! I simply request that you ask my permission before copying any image on this site. I want to help as much as I can. I also like to stay aware of how my work is being used.

I've written a kid's book and I want to get it illustrated. Would you be interested?

This question comes from two different kinds of people: those who want to see their book sold to a major book publisher; or those who are simply wanting to self-publish a kid's book.

Short answer: No.

Long answer:
To those who want to sell their story to a publisher: Editors in the children's market like to pair an author with the illustrator themselves. Most editors have years of experience and they have developed a good sense of what style of illustration will go best with a particular story. The only time they will make an exception is if the author is also the illustrator and even then it's still not a sure thing. Seeking out an illustrator on your own is pretty much a needless expense of your time and money which could better be used polishing your story so it will knock an editor off her feet! You should get a copy of Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market. This book will let you know what a particular publishing house is looking for and what they are looking for from potential new authors.

For those who want to self-publish a book for their children or to sell: As an illustrator, to take a drawing from concept to sketch to final is an investment of time, effort and emotion. Unfortunately, most self-publshers are simply not prepared to pay what a professional illustrator will require to complete a full book. So I must respectfully ask not to be approached with such requests as I will be forced to decline.
